I’m grateful that I get to spend time working in a creative space during the week - it makes this work better. If you don’t like the thought of your lawyer building something in the shop on a Tuesday morning while thinking about your case, we might not be a good fit.

The time I’ve spent restoring, building, and fabricating things has taught me so much about problem-solving and the value that comes from an intentional approach. The most useful tool in my shop is an old wooden chair, and when I get stumped, I sit down and think.

For the uninitiated, this can be infuriating to watch. “Why aren’t we doing something here?!” The willingness to reach for the hammer grows. But smashing things to pieces is easy - you waste no time thinking about the additional costs and damage you’re about to inflict and just swing away, enjoying the cathartic relief that comes from the doing.

I’ve learned, sometimes the hard way, that the better work is thought-out and intentional and full of respect for things that can be easily broken.

When it comes to practicing law, the better work is no different.
